The contract to host the RSC SIAS was negotiated to in 2014 and complements activities with schools that “visit in” to the department by providing the opportunity to visit schools to demonstrate hands-on spectroscopy. The RSC-SIAS contracts generated annual income of £5000 to cover costs of travel, ambassador pay and consumables. The programme typically covered 15-20 school/college visits a year and delivered undergradruate level analytical science activities to Yr 12/13 sixth form classes of 15-20 students. The SIAS programme has reached out to more than 300 students over the 4 years.
